Bryson City NC is called the “Gateway to the Smokies,” this land that the Cherokee Indians called “Shaconage” which means “the place of blue smoke.” This is, indeed, a beautiful way to describe the misty blue haze that settles down around the mountaintops of Swain County, North Carolina.
